Vintage Books

Just a super quick post today on the books I picked up last weekend. I really love using books to decorate my room. It’s such as cheap and simple way to add a ‘shabby chic’ vintage feel to a room. Another idea for those who can manage it – I know a lot of people refuse to rip up books. But if you find one with lovely illustrations, pull them out and frame them. I find Scientific journals and exercise books are great for illustrations. Getting nice wall hangings can be so expensive, but as a generalisation book from op-shops are a couple of dollars, even if you only take out one page it’s worth it compared to buying a piece of art.

Personally I find the older the books are the more I like them. They are also much better quality, all fabric bound and the covers are stunning. The reader digest books I picked up have the most beautiful patterns of them, I haven’t seen anything like them and they were such a steal. The lady at the counter just said I could have them for free – she probably recognises me now as I pop in so much!  Another one I got a little while ago was the Royal History of England. This one was super old and a little bit battered. I love the deep red cover and the embossing. This one had pride of place on top of by book shelf.

  2. Gorgeous books! Love that illustration with the killer whale. You also have a great point with ripping out illustrations from old books and framing them - it's such a great way to get interesting stuff up on the walls. P.S. Your decoration of your walls as well as your view are amazing!

Would you be able to give me the authors name and year of the 'Royal History of England' and also the year of the reader digest books. I also love the illustration of the killer whale, which book is that from? I must have a copy myself :)

    3. Thank you love. Your school work is much more important me dear. When your free I would appreciate the photos of the pages inside. you could send them to my email annajanesearle@hotmail.co.uk also the killer whale illustration which book is that from? Normally there are dates authors or publiser details on the first few pages. Sometimes people do rip them out. The readers digest I have found some on the net, but not the same ones as yours. If you could take photos of the inside details of that too that would be great. Thank you so much. I enjoy your blog so much and has become one my favourite reads :D

  9. Hey Lovely,

Thanks for your lovely comment on my blog and taking me so long to get back to you!
Work has been crazy and hence blogging has been put to the side for the time being.

Its not everyday that you get readers that actually go through your blog and leave meaningful comments than just the love what you are wearing or something along the lines of that. So! seeing your comment made my day!

These books are amazing and how you documented it. Shows that they themselves had a very rich past life before they came to you.

  11. I just found your blog and I must say beforehand: your layout is stuning! especially the background is totally awesome!
I love old books, too! I just finished an old version of Fitzgerald's first book East of Eden. It's a completely different feeling to read in old books than in "new" paperbooks I think!

I am a new reader of your blog and I really like this post about old books. I myself am a fiend for old books and regularly scour my local charity shops - two recent acquisitions were Penguin Classics versions of Dorian Grey and Jane Eyre.
