A couple of weeks back in between finishing my photography assessment and design folio I managed to squeeze in a quick opshop trip. I picked up a few new things but most of them turned out to be quite autumnal? Not really the best choice at the moment as in New Zealand we are heading in to a (hopefully) hot summer!

I am in love with the blue pleated maxi skirt, it’s so easy to wear and I love the feeling of wearing maxi skirts? They are so swish and comfy plus you don’t have to worry about accidently flashing someone which can be a common occurrence living in the windiest capital in the world.  The skirt was $8.00.

The red velvet skirt was also a lucky find – seemed to be having a lot of luck with pleats that day. The skirt was $3.00, but I had to do a bit of a D.I.Y on it, panels of green and pink had sewn on the hem of the skirt, I wasn’t really a fan so unpicked them. The skirt only cost a few dollars so I was happy to take a chance to see if unpicking it would work and it did so that was a bonus and hopefully I will get a lot of wear out of it in autumn.

It’s kinda strange after what seemed like a super long winter to try and remember what I used to wear back in summer? I am so used to chucking on a billion layers to keep the cold out. Still I am not complaining, I am beyond ready for a long hot summer!
Top - $2.00, skirt – $9.00, jacket – $6.00, shoes $11.00 = All thrifted.

For ages I had been one of those people thinking – Pffft?! What is this Instagram crap that everyone’s on about?? I will tell you what it is – Addicting.  I signed up to Instagram a couple of days after jumping on the twitter bandwagon but I have to admit I have been kind of underwhelmed by twitter? I am still not too sure about the whole thing? Instagram on the other hand I was instantly addicted to.

If you have a spare moment I would love for you to come follow me and while you’re at it leave me a link to your Instagram! My username on Instagram is opshopaholic.

Seeing as my folio is now completed and handed in I decided to resume my life and treat myself to a few new tops. Normally when I go opshopping, I head out to the suburbs as the opshops are better but today I mixed it up a little and when in to town – such an exciting life I lead. First off I picked up the little white top form a place called the fringe market, basically it’s a few woman that buying in vintage clothes and then sell them in an old bar. I was so tempted to buy most of the market but it was all mostly out of my price range – I only bough $20.00 with me.

Next I went to Recycle Boutique, for those of you who are not from NZ Recycle boutique is shop that sells peoples pre-loved clothes. But it’s not like other second hand stores that take anyone’s old clothes they mostly take in things that are considered fashionable. The selection of clothes is stunning, featuring a lot of designer pieces as well as some really lovely vintage things as well. A few years ago I literally used to live in recycle boutique and shopped there all the time, then over time I realised I could get similar stuff for cheaper in actual opshops – yes I am a tight ass. So returning to recycle boutique was a bit of a shock as the prices were so much higher. But in saying that, Recycle Boutique is so well run with some of the nicest clothes and the staff are all super lovely and it’s for that reason that I still love having a look around and picking up a few pieces. And in reality its someone’s business so it’s stupid for people to claim its overpriced. Today I got a really lovely velvet t-shirt, not really that appropriate for the summer but it’s still a little chilly here in wellington so no doubt I will get some wear out of it.

I'M BACK! + My end of year design folio

Finally I am back! That was one of the most stressful weeks ever! For those of you who don’t know during the past week I have had to hand in a lot of assignment for art, design tech and photography, one of which being my design folio that counts for more than half my years grade in that subject so it was kind of a big deal. But I handed it in this morning so it all over and my life can resume! Although I am relieved it’s over, I have come to the realisation that there are only a few weeks left till my exams start! And I am yet to actually start studying plus I look like the walking dead from having so many late nights finishing off work.. On the plus side I will have exam leave soon and plenty of time to blog as I only have two exams!!

For those of you (if any) that are interested in what I have been up to, above are some photos of the work I just handed in. Basically we had to come up with promotional designs for a band. As I mentioned it’s a design portfolio and please don’t judge too harshly as it’s my first year doing design EVER! Also, the photos are horrific as I was taking them as super late at night after I finished – sorry!

Some of you may have realised that I haven’t been blogging as regularly as usual. Right now I am in the midst of handing in my design, photography and art folios -super stressful!  Sadly I haven’t had time to blog but in one weeks’ time everything should be back to normal!

In the mean time you can follow me on twitter and Instagram - I FINALLY got an Instagram and I am in love! So if you want to see what I am up to have a look there as I am posting regularly due to my brilliant procrastination skills.

Awkward how I am such a Instagram novice I don't even know how to link you guys to my account? My username is - opshopaholic if that helps? Haha.

Talk to you soon, Anna!

For those of you who are regular readers of my blog then you will know that I have been working on a documentary photography assignment lately. Unfortunately it had to take a back seat as I have been so swamped with my art portfolio which is due in 2 weeks!! Yesterday I managed to head out to Newtown and get some photos.

WHAT I BOUGHT - charity shops

Just a super quick post today! I have something stupid like three days left to complete four A3 art works so I am slightly stressed to say the least.  I have been meaning to do this post for a couple of days now; I actually bought all of this last week. No doubt you will be seeing it all very soon in some outfit posts.

Although it’s a small haul I am really pleased with all the things I picked up. I ready I have gotten so much wear out of the little ring! Normally when doing this kind of post I pick out one or two thing to mention in more detail – which are usually my favourite purchases. But I am really pleased with everything I bought! The corduroy jacket was a bit of an impulse buy, I already have two but the reason I got this one is because it’s a much larger fit and less fitted. And although its spring now I am sure I will be able to get some wear out of it next autumn.  As for the grey t-shirt, I am in love with this. Its perfect for making an outfit a little less girly or just to chuck on for a lazy day which I have been having a lot lately!

I think it’s fair to day that there are a tonne of fashion bloggers out there who know how to perfectly style an outfit – I am not one of them sadly. Hopefully a few of them read my blog and will be able to give me their thoughts on a problematic skirt I have. This style of post is something that I am not really used to doing but I thought that there are so many people looking at my blog surely someone will have some advice? Or maybe I am a lost cause?

This is an outfit I planned on wearing out the other day but in the end I changed out if it, and in to something else. I love each of the items of clothing individually but together they just seem a bit….. Strange? I can’t quite put my finger on it but to me it looks weird. In reality I am probably over analysing but I would love to know what you think? And maybe how you world wear this skirt? Also I really need to iron the hem, it’s all crinkled from drying funny after being washed but that easily fixed.

As beautiful as spring is, the weather can be unpredictable – jumping from winter storms to hot spring days it can be hard to keep up. One thing that I have found really helpful when trying to get dressed in the morning is sleeveless cardigans. I wear mine with a shirt underneath so my arms don’t get too cold but these work really well! They keep you warm without overheating. It’s really weird reading blogs from the UK and similar places are you’re all going in to autumn! But I think that this thing could still work for you guys? Depending on how cold your area is?

This is what I wore yesterday when I went out opshopping, again I didn’t go to many stores but I did manage to pick up a few things that I will be doing a post on in the coming day.

Skirt - thrifted
Sleeveless cardigan – thrifted

OPSHOP HAUL - Finally!

I feel like I haven’t been opshopping in so long! I have had so much work on and right now I am in the middle of a two week break from school so I am trying to make the most of it before I go back! I have been relatively restricted,  its day 6 of the holidays and I haven’t even set foot in an opshop till today but in saying that I already have two trips organised for next week! One with my friend Paula when she finally returns from holiday! And another one because I am getting paid in a few days and can’t wait to spend my money… I really such at saving!

Frist off I went to the salvation army and picked up this red jumper. Not really sure why though? It’s really long  and quite unflattering. At the time I was all like I can wear it as a dress! Because it’s super long! Got home tried it on again…. Not the best look. Perhaps I will do a D.I.Y? Any ideas? It was $8.00

Next I went to vinnies, first off I picked up this really cute white shirt -by now you should know I am such a sucker for lace/embroidered detailing so of course I had to get it! And for only $5.00 I thought why not.  Just as I was about to leave, because I felt I hadn’t bought enough I randomly picked this cardigan up (which by the way it so hard to photograph!). It was an impulse buy but it turned out to be a good one. Its cashmere so its super soft and it drapes really nicely at the front but isn’t too extreme like some cardigans are? However it is getting kinda crazy how many cardigans I have…. Something like 8 of them? This cardigan was also $5.00.
