original image Pinterest - edited by me

Some might say who am I to be giving out blogging advice? I only have a couple of hundred followers and I haven’t even been blogging for a year. This is simply a post to help out any newbies or people who have a handful of follower and what to grow their blog. When I first started I found this kind of post incredibly helpful and hopefully you guys will too! Plus it’s just interesting in general to see how other people go about blogging.

  •  Choose a name/title for your blog that’s short and sweet but to the point. Make sure it reflects the content of your blog in someway even if its subtle - don’t call it ‘BLOG OF HORROR’ if you plan on showing your latest make up purchases!! But also try to be original!
  • Pick a type of content for your blog – fashion and beauty, design and photography, inspiration, health etc..
  •  Consider what your point of difference will be. There are millions of blog, especially fashion and beauty – what makes your any different or worth reading? For example my blog is about my personal style but it mainly focuses on opshopping, which makes it different to most blogs.
  •  Decide how much information you want to put on the internet – If your blog does become successful or you even get a couple of thousand followers you can meet some unpleasant people.
  •  MAKE SURE YOU ADD THE ‘FOLLOWERS’ WIDGET. For the first month I had no idea why I couldn’t get even one follower – turns out its not a built in feature… whops!
  •  Get used to the fact eventually your friends and family will find out about your blog. My friends were ultra supportive when I told them, but my family did laugh at first but now they are really proud!

  •  Use social media to your advantage! I really recommend intsagram. Personally I’m not in to twitter but I know it works for a lot of people. Basically the more social media you use, the more places you have for people to find the link to your blog.
  • Make blog friends – this can take a while but just check up on peoples blogs regularly and leave them comments before you know it you start to develop a friendship through the comments. Also collaborating on posts can help you to make buddies!!
  •  COMMENT, this is probably THE best way to get followers. Effectively every blog you leave a comment on is leaving a link back to your blog for people to find. This doe NOT mean you should spam bloggers. ‘ PLEASE FOLLOW ME I’M NEW!’ this is an instant turn off! Trust me. I delete comments like this. Many blogger including myself find them rude and annoying. Read the post and leave a kind and thought out comment.
  •  Turn off comment authorization (?) not sure what its called but it’s the thing that pops up saying “ what numbers / letters do you see?? ” (email me if you need help doing this!)

  •  In my opinion one of THE most important aspects of your blog design/layout is the title. It’s the first thing people see. I made mine on picmonkey. its REALLY EASY but looks effective. Then in settings you just select ‘use photo as title’.
  • Work with a limited colour scheme – maybe 4 colors tops? Mines are grey, peach, dark dark orange and white.
  • Use LARGE high quality photos – this does not mean go out and by a DSLR camera. Just take photos in good light, don’t use out of focus images or ones that are too light/dark.
  •  When selecting a background either choose an image that fits the whole background or one that can be seamlessly repeated. It looks tacky when you can see its tiny image repeated 1000 times. Also you don’t want it to compete with your blogs content – keep it simple!
  •  Try not to use the premade templates – you don’t have to edit the scary HTML code (I didn’t!!) just play around with colours and fonts etc…

  • Be careful whom you accept promotional material from. I have been approached a couple of times by business to review a product and there is nothing wrong with that but I declined (politely!) because they had little relevance to my blog or style. I didn’t want to put something on my blog that I didn’t whole hearted love just because it was free.
  • The more people looking at your blog the more likely it is you will get hate. You just have to ignore it and delete it. But do NOT comment back! More often and not readers of your blog will tell the person to stop but you really don’t want to encourage anything like that on your blog.

This turned out to be so long! Hopefully it helps, Anna xx

As much as i hate to admit it - i really am starting to stock up on more winter items. When I saw this in Salvos i couldn't resist. But now i kinda wish i had, typical Anna didn't look at the price tag. it was $6.00?? normally scarves are about $4.00. That aside I love the deep red, silver and gold colour pallet.

This shirt fully makes up for the price of the scarf it was only$2.50 in a half price sale. Its a mens shirt but that doesn't bother me. I LOVE the colour its Deep orange/ rust colour with a hot pink sheen. Sounds awful but looks amazing. However i don't know any men who would want to wear it? Perhaps thats why its in the salvation army?

I love maybelline express finnish nail polishes. In fact I love any nail polish that drys quickly - waiting for my nails to dry kills me! With out fail I always bump them or chip them. In the photo the colour is coming across as very nude but in reality its got a real pink tinge to it. Its weird that i like this colour so much because usually i HATE pink but this one is really nice - its called 'Pink Glimpse' And has a really beautiful cool tone blue/while metallic sheen to it. Plus the formula lasts for ages with out chipping. Which is perfect because the other thing  hate doing is removing nail polish !

And finally, I wanted to show you guys this sweet little necklace I re-found in my collection. Its really cute and dainty. I really like how it breaks the 'no gold and silver together' rule. Although the gold look yellow in this photo?

Hope your enjoying your weekend. Anna

Yesterday my school held their annual athletics day. As many of you will be well aware, all girls’ schools and sports days don’t usually mix. A lot of people suddenly feel ill and can’t come to school. Funny how that happens. My school has realized this and pretty much turned athletics day in to a huge dress up party. I have always been keen on a bit of dressing up, four years in a row my fiends and I have gone hard and made our own costumes, one year we even won best dressed in the school.

However its not just about the dressing up, its not even about the athletics its more about the house spirit. I’m not sure if it’s an international thing but just like in harry potter students are divided up in to groups and you compete for the house cup. It might sound lame to some of you but it really does get people to bond, its surprising how competitive us ladies can get when a house cup is involved. By the end of the day most of us had nearly lost our voice from going hard in the chant competition.

Being the oldest in the school really made this year much more sentimental for me and the rest of the year 13’s. We were lucky that we had such great weather! My house theme for this year was ‘the lion king’ so I dressed up as the circle of life and painted that scene of the movie of my costume. My friends in purple went as magenta from the rocky horror picture shoe as that was their theme.

Does your school do anything similar??

I only own four lipsticks yet I still manage to forget about some of them. I purchased this Revlon lipstick bit before Christmas and its sat neglected on my dresser. Till last weekend. I have become so used to wearing my trusty nude lipstick that I didn’t bother trying out different colours. It just became my regular routine to always reach for the same lip product – why fix what isn’t broken?

This is such a lovely creamy formula lipstick and the shade is really pretty, its vibrant enough to add colour to an outfit and brighten your face but is still easily wearable. Not that I have tried many lipsticks, but in my opinion this is highly pigmented and really nourishing. However, I’m not really a fan of the packaging. I like my lipsticks to look just as pretty in the packaging as they do in my face.

THE CLASSICS - outfit.

Who doesn’t love a lazy Sunday? This is a pretty generic weekend outfit for going round the house in – highwaisted shorts and an over sized sweater. Don’t get me wrong, I love clothes but come Sunday I really can’t be bothered do get all dressed up, so I pull out al the over sized clothing I own and attempt town it all at once.

In my humble opinion every wardrobe needs a good pair of short and a huge cuddly snugly jumper. My shorts were originally awful mum jeans that I got from the opshop and cut up, the sweater I picked out for my brother Hamish but then decided that I actually quite liked it so I kept is. I’m such a giver.

Hope your weekends going well, Anna.
